Zihuatanejo’s Sail Fest 2010

A  good cause for the needed children in Zihuatanejo!

Starting today February 2nd to February 7th a series of events will be held to fundraise money for the education

of the children in the Zihuatanejo Bay Area.

SailFest is a five-day festival that combines fun and games, heart-felt volunteerism and an outpouring of international friendship. Although the tone of the event is light-hearted, the cruisers’ goals are serious – to raise funds for the education of Zihuatanejo’s poorest children.

Cocktail parties, benefit concert, live auctions, sailboat and dingy races, poker chases, kids day, beach parties, seminars, ham radio tests, chili cook-offs, street fairs, regattas and work parties at the schools are just some of the events that highlight this gathering of “free spirits”.

As stated in their web page: http://www.zihuasailfest.com/

“In 2009, the troops raised approximately $640,000 pesos, including the generous matching grant from the Bellack Foundation and cruiser/donor Pete Boyce. Bolstered by a $20,000.usd grant from Rotary International, materials donations from the city and state, and the volunteer labor of dozens and dozens of parents, our bright-eyed young scholars now have 10 new classrooms in which to learn. This year, 9 schools, and more than 600 children, benefited from educational projects funded by Sailfest.

The funds are administered by Por Los Niños of Zihuatanejo, a Mexican registered non-profit corporation that was established to administer the funds raised by Sail Fest related activities. A nine member advisory committee composed of year round international residents, local bi-lingual Mexican educators and representatives of the sailing community makes all funding decisions.

We hope you plan to join us in 2010 to continue this tradition that began only 8 years ago, but has gained international recognition as a “major” sailing community event. Each year, as many as 102 vessels register and join in the fun! If you are planning to attend (either actually or with a “virtual” vessel) please fill out the registration form so that we can properly coordinate the T-shirts, hats, food, drinks, accommodations and the many other requirements we have found to be necessary. Your collaboration is appreciated and we look forward to seeing you in Zihua.

And the kids are waiting to meet you!”

For Pacifica Resorts it is really important to witness the kind of events that will benefit the development of our Community. We invite you to take action!

Lorena Ochoa defeats Paula Creamer @ Ixtapa

The Mexican Golfer defeated Paula Creamer with a score of 15 holes to three.

Lorena Ochoa @ Ixtapa!

It might been not her best golf, but Lorena Ochoa finally broke a run of three defeats in a row in the Skins 15-3 (holes) Saturday to  the American Paula Creamer and won a prize of 150 thousand dollars.

The Mexican was not one of her best days on the golf course of Ixtapa and barely managed a birdie in 18 holes. She also made two double bogeys in the first two holes, something unprecedented in the race for number one ranking of the LPGA.

The “Good things are meant to be shared” Staff is really proud that finally events like the Skins Tournament are happening at Ixtapa, so a lot more people could be confident about Visiting Mexico!

The Mexican golfer, the world’s number one player, will be tomorrow -June 20th- playing on the golf course “La Marina” a skin tournament with the U.S. Paula Cremer.

This is the third time that Ochoa is  playing in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. In the first two occasions, the Swedish Anikka Sorestam was the winner. The total price to play is a total of $ 180,000 and be distributed in amounts of 10,000 for each of the 18 holes of the field.

For the Mexican athlete, this kind of tournaments represent “a very big challenge because you learn to compete” and the aggressive play that is presented allows you to increase your level.

The golf course “La Marina” has a length of 6,793 yards in an area of 136 acres of land on the paradisiacal state of Guerrero.

Here in “Good things are meant to be shared” we will be notify the outcome of this competition.
